Solena Aguilar is a textile artist and author from San Francisco, CA currently foraging for fabric in Brooklyn, NY. Drawing inspiration from their Nicaraguan and Queer background, Solena works to build community with storytelling and pattern making. Their children’s book characters help describe seemingly complex topics in accessible ways to help readers break down prejudice and embrace curiosity. Solena is the creator and illustrator of What Do You Need?/¿Qué Necesitas?, a bilingual children’s book about equity and mutual aid. Through storytelling, art exhibitions, murals, and collaborative workshops, Solena works to build community by creating spaces for connection and understanding.
