Addressing Hate Crimes Against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders
February 19, 2021
COVID-19 has been disastrous for many of us in many ways. At Stirred Stories, we are particularly troubled by the increase of hate crimes towards Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders since the coronavirus pandemic. Moreover, we are troubled that these hate crimes have not received the attention that the AAPI community deserves. Hate has no home at Stirred Stories and we hope that through the voices we amplify and the stories we tell, it’ll eventually have no home in any corner of society.
Racism against the AAPI community didn’t start with COVID-19, but as it has with many inequalities, COVID-19 has highlighted how deeply rooted racial and ethnic disparities are in the U.S. and the world over. We condemn these acts of violent racism wholeheartedly and will continue to use our platform to tell the stories that for too long have only existed in the margins.
Please visit stopaapihate.org to learn how you can take action to support the AAPI community. We’d also like to shout out the Are You There, Universe? podcast which is hosted by two Asian American women with tremendous insight on the topics of social justice, healing, spirituality, and mindfulness.
In solidarity,
The Stirred Stories Team
